No matter if you have or don't have PRO account, tb means team balance and there are small chances that you and your friend wil end up together in same team.

PRO account is of course much more convenient to have, you can use autofollow function or many others which you get by purchasing it.

There is also an option to host just regular games which also have ladder, where you don't add team balance.
