DotA Season 1

18 Dec 2009 @ 00:33 CET

The end of the BETA season has arrived but we've not remained idle — we have been listening attentively to your feedback and suggestions, trying to embody all the ideas that you shared with us openly through the iCCup.com website. We are grateful for the gaming community and the interest it has show in the development of DotA as an eSport and on iCCup. We very much appreciate the support and constructive criticism which serves to promote what we can offer and constantly improve it. Using these ideas and more DotA on iCCup has taken massive strides.

Throughout the duration of our initial beta season the development team have been hard at work and we have reached a major milestone in the ladder — The first true season of DotA on iCCup. The feedback has yeilded many changes, improvements and updates to the old ladder that we think you will all enjoy.

Season 1 Dates

The first season will last almost 3 months

Season 1 Begins18-12-2009
Season 1 Ends01-03-2010
Prize pool1000 USD

Among the list of additions and updates you can now play under more ladder modes, have more freedom in excluding hackers or leavers, limit the rank of a game and play mods without losing points.Read on a for a comprehensive list of additions to the DotA server on iCCup.

You can create not just 1 ladder game mode, but 5! When you play on fun modes like sd/ar you will get less points for winning in comparison to the more tactical and challenging ap/rd and of course for games with -cm mode you will receive the most number of points for recording a victory.

Want to play a closed game? No problem. Just use this command for the bot (/ hostprivate / hostclose / hop) instead of the usual (/ host). In which case you can change the type of game from public to private and back (/ private / priv / public / pub) not recreating.

To further improve the delay we now use two types of bots — both Russian and European. Moreover, the server will automaticly detect via ping the best variant for you, and of course, when users join the game the country of each user will be displayed in a tag (e.g. [RU] for Russian, [AU] for Australian, etc.).

If you suspect someone of cheating, when you create a game you can exclude those who do not use the Anti-Hack launcher using a simple command (/ nah). In the interest of fair games it is also no longer a chore to kick people at the wrong skill level for your game. Now you can specify a point limit to join your game with just one line (/ ranklimit / rl). You can easily also simply ban unwanted players (/ ban ).

We also changed the system for penalising leavers, now the number of points taken away will depend not only of the number of games deserted, but the penalty will also increase the higher the rank of a user. When a player joins a game their percentage of games left is also displayed so you may disclude potential leavers.

A new set of commands for Fast Finish (-ff -surrender -finish -lose) may be used when the outcome of the game is already a foregone conclusion, and your whole team wishes to concede defeat, you do not have to wait while opponents farm or delay the finishing blow — all players may type -ff and the match if forfeited and ends. Points will be distributed exactly the same way as if you finished the game in normal mode.

For those who practice or want to play with the mod -wtf or any others without risking valuable ladder points, we added a special bot for not ladder matches. Simply create a game using the appropriate command (/chost) and have fun! This bot has also given us an opportunity to add a Tournament system, where everyone can create a competition on the iCCup website with its own randomly generated grid and virtually automatic registration and check-in on the site.

In addition to the new features we have improved all technical aspects of the server, significantly increasing the resources available, adding a server in Russia, Europe and in the near future, the United States and perhaps even China. Improvements have also been made to the structure of the host bots — now the number of hostbots available is almost infinite, which means you can start a game right away!

Very laggy. Random lag spikes and I lose control of my hero, cant use spells or move. Not sure what the problem is, but in the game I just played everyone was experiencing it.

I see a typo: In the table where it lists when the season will start and finish, they're both 2009. Shouldnt the ending one be 2010?

Any idea when it will be solved? I'm still getting lag spikes then being dropped, or still losing control of hero.
